![]() Celebrity Cruises' new Mercury made her inaugural Caribbean cruise the week of November 2, 1997. While basically a sister ship to both Century and Galaxy, each of these ships has a different decor and theme. Having sailed on all three ships, I would describe Century as traditional "Ethan Allen" with lush woods, marble and plush upholstery. Galaxy is far-reaching "21st Century" with a truly modern art collection, bold golds and oranges and a disco lounge that is truly "Stratospheric". Mercury sits somewhere in the middle with an eclectic art collection ranging from black and white photographs from the late 1920s to modern "sayings" painted on plexiglass surrounds. The use of blues and reds throughout and the subdued opulence of the Manhattan Restaurant remind me of the films of the 1930s. As my husband said of the Pavilion Night Club, "I can see Fred and Ginger dancing in here." While we await our first full review of the Mercury, I thought you would enjoy a selection of photos which were scanned from slides supplied by Celebrity Cruises.
