The "Explorer" Cruise French Side
After boarding the buses in Phillipsburg, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten with its quaint "ginger bread" houses, guests are taken on a narrated drive along Salt Pond Road, then up over the mountain road on the south coast of the island to meet the party boat "Explorer" waiting in the lagoon. Always calm, the lagoon stretches across the whole of the island to join the Dutch and French sides. The "Explorer", specially built in Florida for the islands, has vast sun decks and shady areas, two bars complete with barrels of free rum punch, four changing rooms, toilets, and a well stocked boutique and cafe. The "Explorer" cruises through the lagoon, with her captain pointing out the highlights as she sails over to the beautiful riviera style port royal in Marigot on the French side. Here, you will stop for an hour to browse through the shops, sit at pavement cafes or photograph the picturesque capital of French St. Martin. Back aboard the "Explorer", she cruises gently across the water to stop at her own island beach for a swim and everyone to relax in the sun with a rum punch or soft drink, all free help yourselves from the barrels. Meeting the coaches once again, they take you on the return journey, but this time you will stop at lookout point on Cole Bay Hill for picture- taking of the whole panorama of the lagoon and southwest of the island.
